Unlike pulleys, this system uses the friction between the rope and the screw eyes to roll up the screen.

To begin with, the screw eyes are strategically located on the upper door jam in a straight line. The distance between each screw eye depends on the size of the screen and the desired tension. The rope is then threaded through the screw eyes, with the end of the rope left hanging.

To roll up the screen, one must grab the rope and pull it slowly and patiently. The screen will roll up into a nice, formed roll. The key to this system is the friction between the rope and the screw eyes. As the rope is pulled, it creates tension between the screw eyes and the rope. This tension causes the screen to roll up as the rope is pulled through the screw eyes.
